I’m Emily May Jampel, a Brooklyn-based director, writer, producer, actress, and consultant. My work spans narrative shorts, coming-of-age stories, and documentary-style projects, with a focus on intimate storytelling, community, and identity. My films have premiered and screened at festivals such as Aspen Shorts Fest and others, and I collaborate with organizations like UFO Short Film Lab & New Fest on new projects.
I earned a BA in Film & Cultural Theory from the Gallatin School of Individualized Study (NYU) in 2017, and I continue to develop diverse projects from Brooklyn. I am passionate about directing, writing, and producing and enjoy mentoring and consulting on storytelling that centers underrepresented voices.

Short coming-of-age romance about two Asian-American teenagers who meet in the bathroom of a Chinese restaurant while having dinner with their families. Awards: Young Cineastes Award (Palm Springs), Special Mention, Best LGBTQ+ Short (Palm Springs), Audience Award, Best American Short Film (Champs-Élysées), Special Jury Award (San Diego Asian Film Festival), Best Narrative Short (Tampa Bay International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival), recipient of Frameline Completion Fund 2021/2022, Inside Out’s 2021 Re:Focus Fund. The film went viral with over one million views on TikTok after premiering online on NOWNESS Asia.
