I am a journalist and writer living between Honolulu, Hawaii and Kobe, Japan. In 2020 I earned an Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for my work as Writer/Producer of the 2020 Queen Lili’uokalani Keiki Hula Hōʻike. My travel dispatches and images have taken me to Damascus, Rangoon, Islamabad, Arusha, Cotonou, the Okavango Delta, Dili, Dharamsala, Skardu, Palangkaraya, Isla de Flores, Wewak, and many other places where the road ends and adventure begins. My Japanese mother and Italian father gave me a transitory, military-brat upbringing that sent us to Europe, where I learned German, Italian and Spanish, and I joined the Trans-Atlantic Council of the Boy Scouts of America. On one occasion I was questioned by Military Police in Würzburg for carrying live WWII ammunition onto a post that my patrol found in a Nazi bunker; since then I have sworn off weaponry and continued traveling the globe for more than thirty years. I presently serve as the Executive Director for the Kalihi-Pālama Culture & Arts Society in Honolulu, Hawaii.
