Itemized PayPal Checkout for Forminator Without Touching Core
Summary
A custom integration that sends calculated, itemized line items to PayPal from a production Forminator form — built entirely through server-side filters, with zero changes to plugin core.
Challenge
The default payment flow did not give PayPal a clear, calculated breakdown of what the customer was paying for. Editing the plugin directly was not an option: the next Forminator update would erase the work and put a live, revenue-taking form at risk.
Solution
I built the behaviour as a separate, update-safe layer:
- Calculated line items on the server side from the submitted form values
- Passed itemized descriptions and amounts to PayPal through Forminator’s server-side filters
- Kept all custom logic outside plugin core, so Forminator updates remain safe
- Verified the full flow on the live production form, from submission to PayPal
Result
The form now produces a clear, itemized PayPal checkout that the client can reconcile against submissions — delivered as maintainable custom code that survives plugin updates.
