James L. Gilmore is a storyteller. From a young age, James was finding ways to tell stories, whether it be in form of Bruce Wayne taking on the Joker or a past time about the Tuskegee Airmen. Having directed and/or produced over 35 projects, James has demonstrated his proven talent for creating work that captures audiences’ attention, entertains, and influences. His independent documentary film, Live.Work.Worship (2015), showcased the community in Columbus, Ohio’s 20th and Mt. Vernon neighborhood and premiered at the historic Lincoln Theater. James’ work on Hidden Empire Film Group’s Be Woke, Vote webseries helped galvanize Millennial and Gen Z voters in the 2020 election. James loves gritty, character-driven storytelling, and wants to educate and entertain the world through telling breathtaking stories about fascinating characters. A relative outsider to the entertainment industry – coming from Columbus, OH with few pre-existing connections – James’ ambition is unmatched. James is passionate about learning from the industry giants that have gone before him, as well as being a mentor to those aiming to make it in this field. He has had the chance to shadow storytellers like the late, legendary John Singleton, and he works to cultivate the next generation of filmmakers as a member of the Columbus International Film Festival Board. James places a huge emphasis on family, and is a loving father to his two daughters and wife. James is a long-time fan of the Cleveland Cavs, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Michigan Wolverines, and he currently resides in Long Beach, CA. James earned his B.A. in Strategic Communication from Ohio Dominican University in 2010 and his M.A. in Film and Television from the Los Angeles Film School
