Cinematographer, director, screenwriter and independent producer Giuliano Tomassacci was born in Rome in 1978. After his science degree, he attended a two-year preparatory class at DAMS. Then he was chosen for a public class for camera operators held by Regione Lazio in Rome, and studied direction of photography under members of A.I.C. (Italian Association of Cinematography) Paolo Rossato and Roberto Girometti and then attended a qualifying class at the Istituto di Stato per la Cinematografia e la Televisione "Roberto Rossellini". He began his career in cinematography with a feature film by Antoine Cucca and a series of short films and independent commercials while also working as a grip and gaffer for such directors of photography as Blasco Giurato, Giovanni Cavallini and Patrizio Patrizi and practicing as a cameraman with several ENG troupe services. Since 2001 he has lensed feature movies, commercials, music videos for Italian and international artists, promotional campaigns, short films, video-art content, and TV shows. Between 2005 and 2008 he also worked as a production assistant and as a production manager. In 2011 Tomassacci co-wrote, co-produced and lensed the sci-fi feature Report 51, one of the most unusual Italian independent films of the last twenty years. The movie premiered at the Trieste Science + Fiction Festival and entered competition at the FantaFestival in Rome, being then distributed in various territories worldwide. In 2015 he conceived and began development of the Split-Vision (sV) project, which includes a method and a system that reconsiders the experience of multi-screen, split-screen video, and multi-dynamic image technique by updating them to current technology, organically articulating visuals and narratives through tablets, smartphones and portable screens. In 2016 he debuted as a director with the sV system sci-fi promo Here We Go Again, Rubinot!, scored by legendary composer Andrew Powell. In 2017 he presented the preparatory study for “_ tempo|macchina _”, his stage installation pièce in split-vision, staged at the Teatro Studio Uno in Rome. He made his feature directorial debut with the arthouse sci-fi drama Three Mirrors Creature’s Flashes of Flesh, starring actress Michela Bruni. Semifinalist at the 2022 Chicago Blow Up Arthouse International Film Festival, the film premiered internationally in Antwerp, Belgium, at Filmhuis Klappei in December 2023, then entered the New York Film-Makers' Cooperative’s catalog and is now available on various VOD digital streaming platform, both in its 7-hour feature full length and 7-parter miniseries cut. As a film scholar and filmmaker, he collaborated with the Ravello Festival, the Casa del Cinema, the Auditorium Parco della Musica and the John Cabot University in Rome, the DAMS University of Turin, the Dante Alighieri Society in Antwerp, the Liège University and the Italian Cultural Institute of Brussels.
