Hi there ! I'm Mantageri, a Chinese author-illustrator based between China and the United States. My work explores the visual translation of ethnography, folklore, and oral history through children's books, graphic novel, editorial illustration, and advertising. Drawing from fieldwork, interviews, handmade objects, and the quiet details of daily life, I create research-driven stories that connect culture, memory, and imagination. Working across both traditional and digital media, I combine the tactile textures of paintmaking materials with the flexibility and precision of digital processes, creating imagery that feels both handcrafted and contemporary. Beyond illustration, I'm also a printmaker, ceramic artist, home cook, magical realism enthusiast, surfer, and rock climber. Collaborated with Smithsonian institutions on digital media and editorial projects. Interviewed Indigenous artists during the 2024 Smithsonian Folklife Festival and wrote and illustrated stories published by Smithsonian Folklife Magazine and the Folklife Festival website.
