Hi everyone, my name is Manuel Linhares, a Portuguese singer/ composer deeply immersed in the world of performance, composition, and teaching. Currently, I call New York home, but my musical journey has taken me far and wide. I hold a degree in Jazz Music from ESMAE in Porto, Portugal, and I've furthered my education at "Tallers de Muzics" in Barcelona and the Jazz Institute of Berlin. Along the way, I've had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with legendary figures like Bobby McFerrin, Judy Niemack, and Meredith Monk, as well as study under esteemed mentors such as John Hollenbeck, Theo Bleckmann, Gretchen Parlato or Becca Stevens. My performances have graced stages across Portugal, Europe, the United States, and Brazil, including appearances at renowned festivals like "Caldas Nice Jazz" and "Jazz Fest of Berlin." Additionally, I've contributed to several albums as a guest artist and released my own original works, such as "Traces of Cities" in 2013, "Boundaries" in 2019 and the successful “Suspenso” in 2022. Beyond my solo endeavors, I've had the pleasure of collaborating with artists globally. Notably, my duo project with Brazilian singer Pedro Iaco led to a presentation at São Paulo TEDx and multiple international tours. I've also played a significant role as the lead singer in saxophonist Carlos Martins' project, "Vagar." In addition to my performance career, I'm deeply involved in teaching singing and vocal improvisation. In 2017, I founded "O Círculo da Voz," a vocal improvisation laboratory in Porto, and co-created the "Vocal Being Retreat" alongside Sofia Ribeiro and Rizumik. Furthermore, I've had the honor of teaching alongside icons like Bobby McFerrin and Rhiannon at the "Circlesongs School." I have also been doing some acting gigs that introduced me to Voice Over, a new career opportunity that as I singer it has been very exciting to navigate. As a composer I have also did works for other projects and musicians like film-scoring, arranging and music productions. Currently, I'm part of Rhiannon's innovative Murmuration project, collaborating with exceptional talents from around the world, including the remarkable choreographer Margie Gillis.
