I am Matisse, a technical & creative sound designer from QC, Canada (GMT-4). I transitioned towards audio (my passion for the last decade) after 14+ years working on the technical side of 2D animation where I have specialized in 2D rigging and overall problem solving for various departments. I have been a Technical Director, Teacher, Supervisor and founded a service outsourcing studio, amongst other things! There are a lot of transferable skills I have from this experience: interdepartmental communication and understanding, extremely problem-solving oriented, keen visual sense for animation, timing, composition, etc, and more. I graduated from a sound design for video games program in summer of 2025. While I have focused on interactive mediums since graduating, I am interested in working linear ones too. I suppose you’ve understood by now that I definitely have a love for tech, but I actually love the creative craft. I am yet to figure out just where I will be the happiest in my career, but I believe I need to both to feel fully satisfied. Aside from smaller involvements, I have been working on 2 games since graduating, which haven’t yet been released. The first is a 3rd person JRPG in a sci-fi fantasy world (Wwise + UE). The other is a top-down monster-tamer (Wwise + Godot). I am the sole sound designer for both and handle everything from design to implementation, and integration with the support of the programmers. The experiences above are great, but I would love to have an audio supervisor and/or be part of an audio team from whom I can learn even faster. Design-wise, my favorite overall genres are a mix of sci-fi, fantasy and dark vibes. With that said, I’ve recently had to create magic spells for more of a « cute » game and I also really enjoyed it. Overall, my preference is to create sounds that blend the familiar with the very designed (I want to play with my plugins!) rather than aiming for extreme realism.
