Since launching in 2017, NewAm's Genre-fluid Composers’ Lab has served over 80 musicians from around the globe including over 20 states and 10 countries. Designed as a revolving and flexible masterclass/workshop program for emerging/early career creators of music, the Composers’ Lab explores the challenges and opportunities of the current musical landscape. Past participants have come from many walks of musical life - including self-taught improvisers, doctoral candidates, touring indie musicians, established European EDM artists, and non-music major undergraduates.

    Twenty Two is the first in a series of collaborations with filmmaker Matthew Taylor and members of the San Fransisco Ballet. These mostly improvised dance performances were shot and edited by Taylor into impressionistic video sculptures.     Mantra - Sixty Ton Angel
    Mantra, the latest record from Anderson’s ambient project Sixty Ton Angel, is guided meditation music designed for riding the New York City subway system. The project was born incidentally while Anderson was undergoing an anxiety attack on the subway, and began repeating phrases to himself: “I am on the train”; “the train is in the station”; “each rider on the train has a destination.” By doing so he inadvertently entered a hypnotic meditative state. These phrases evolved into the mindfulness cues featured on the record. He is currently “busking” the project on subway platforms by providing a sign with a QR code, from which riders can stream the record during their ride.
