For decades, Jason Jones has fought for the rights of LGBTQIA+ people across the Global South. Having endured hundreds of death threats, a fatwa and isolation from family and friends, Jason took Trinidad & Tobago to the High Court to challenge its discriminatory laws.
In 2018, he won a landmark victory, with the court ruling the law unconstitutional. In 2025, that victory was overturned using a savings clause, reviving colonial-era legislation many believed belonged in the past and criminalising LGBTQIA+ people once again.
Filmmaker Nathan Croft first became involved after meeting Jason’s colleague and the film’s facilitator, Alessandro Storer, at a networking event. Jason had already filmed interviews and footage in Trinidad & Tobago and was looking for help bringing the material together. When that footage was lost, the project was reimagined, drawing on Jason’s extraordinary network of activists and changemakers in the UK.

*Last Chance For Love* follows human rights activist Jason Jones’ journey to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, as he challenges the laws that criminalise the LGBTQIA+ community in Trinidad & Tobago. Filmed over ten months, the documentary shares the remarkable stories of LGBTQIA+ activists and changemakers who remind us why the fight for equality is far from over, and is as important now as it has ever been.
