Hold My Cat!

Recently, I took part in the GMTK Game Jam, where our team created Hold My Cat in just 4 days! The premise is simple: a platform game, where youโre a firefighter, the building is on fire, and there are cats that need saving.
I was responsible for the entire audio side of the game โ soundtrack and sound effects โ going all-in on a retro, 8-bit-inspired sound. One of the most interesting challenges was recreating cat sounds using a chiptune synthesizer โ turns out you can make a surprisingly convincing purr by properly modulating the noise section.
I also wanted the soundtrack to feel authentic to the era, so I composed it while sticking to the limitations of the original hardware. Working within those constraints instead of simply making something that sounds retro was a really fun creative exercise.
