Atahualpa Yupanqui - Portrait

I was commissioned by a client to illustrate the arrival of Atahualpa Yupanki (Argentinean folklore singer), to the town of Azul, in the province of Buenos Aires Argentina.
He has a song that says that the “axis of his cart squeak, and he won’t grease them because he enjoys the sound as he travels silently on his roads”. It’s about a humble cart driver who has everything he needs.
The illustration depicts the cart full of gold, dropping coins as he travels, the sound of the gold coins hitting the ground, is the “sound of the axis of his cart”. He is rich, even though he is simply a farmer.

The client was very pleased with the illustration.
