My name is Peter Fineberg. I am a recording engineer, sound designer, and music producer based in Berkeley, California. Since graduating from the Expression Center for New Media in 2003 with a degree in Sound Arts and Audio Science, I have operated an independent recording and mixing studio where I work with filmmakers, musicians, and artists on projects spanning music production, film sound design, and audio post-production.
Over the past two decades I have developed a practice centered on shaping sound for storytelling. My film work includes sound design and mixing for independent projects such as The Stress Is Killing Me and other narrative and documentary productions. I have also collaborated with ethnomusicologist and sound artist Steven Feld, mixing documentary films and helping develop sound libraries created from recordings of indigenous African instruments.
In addition to film work, I produce and mix music, compose original scores, and maintain an extensive library of field recordings, foley, and analog synthesizer textures that I use in my sound design work. My studio practice combines technical precision with creative experimentation, drawing on both traditional recording techniques and modern digital production tools.
Since 2020 I have also worked with Healing Essence in Mill Valley, producing video and audio content for bestselling author Leonard Leinow, including editing, sound design, music scoring, and post-production for digital media.
I’m passionate about using sound to support narrative, emotion, and atmosphere, whether in film, music, or experimental audio work. I continue to collaborate with independent filmmakers and musicians while expanding my network of creative partners and projects.

For the award‑winning short I Miss Us (dir. Roth Rind), I contributed as additional sound designer and sound mixer on the full project, helping shape the film’s overall audio environment from dialogue to effects and ambience. Working collaboratively with the sound team, I supported the integration of narrative sound elements to enhance emotional nuance and support the storytelling throughout this comedy‑horror short.
For The Stress Is Killing Me, I served as sound designer and mixer, creating an immersive audio landscape that supports the film’s narrative and emotional arc. I crafted original sound effects, foley, and ambient textures, blending them seamlessly with dialogue and music to enhance tension, mood, and storytelling.
