The Joe Hill Revival

The Joe Hill Revival tells the story of Joe Hill, labor songwriter and activist with the IWW (Industrial Workers of the World) who was executed by the state of Utah in 1915. His story is “revived” with contemporary sounds and links the struggles of 1915 to those we face today. The show is a tribute to those who fight to change the world. In the words of our director, Jerome Harmann-Hardeman:

_"In this telling of Joe Hill’s story, Dan transports the audience through the eyes of Joe Hill, Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, Hilda Erickson, Otto Appelquist, the judges, lawyers, workers and hobos via a cast of nine who play twenty one characters. He dramatizes the unknown love tryst that becomes Joe’s undoing. Hidden for years this lovers’ conflict has been revealed to be the catalyst which quite directly led to Joe’s arrest, trial, conviction and execution. Joe Hill became an unlikely hero to the people. He was far from perfect, but he discovered something men and women the world over search for within themselves, a cause larger than themselves. He spoke, wrote and lived what he believed… and so for a brief period of time “…He indeed held history in his hands”._

This will (a bit ironically!) be a non-union production, given factors beyond our control. The show will rehearse roughly from mid-August through late September: first full performance will be September 30 at the new Brooklyn Art Haus. Other BAH performances will be: Oct, 7, 14, 21, 28, and a final show/celebration in a Brooklyn bar. We will also do a preview concert at Green Room 42 in Manhattan

$600.00 per year

Job Description:

The Stage Manager will prepare the rehearsal space, keep track of props/costumes, assist in sound and lighting and keep track of staging and blocking as it gets set in rehearsal. We know the pay is not great. We are a scrappy theater organization fighting for funding—if you are a hard worker with theater experience who wants to be part of an artistically fulfilling production—this is a job for you!
