Responsibilities

This position will report to the HR Manager and be responsible for supporting the firm’s marketing department, litigation support group, and other technical teams, as needed. This is a freelance position with work tasks arising on an as-needed basis, with an estimated utilization of 0-12 hours per week.

  • Participate in visual strategy discussions
  • Work with project teams to identify opportunities to integrate visualizations into client deliverables
  • Provide recommendations and strategies for communicating technical information and data visually to either layperson or technical audiences
  • Design and format digital presentations
  • Design and format PowerPoint presentations for layout, structure, and consistency with a focus on audience-friendly design
  • Work with project teams to create conceptual figures and diagrams that correctly convey intended messaging
  • Redesign charts, graphs, tables, and other graphics for a consistent visual experience
  • Create diagrams, graphs, infographics, trial demonstratives and animations, and other illustrations
  • Work with technical staff to prepare technical illustrations and demonstratives (including animations and motion graphics) for client presentations, project deliverables, and training materials
  • Use source files (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, hard copies) to create high-quality graphics that adhere to brand guidelines
  • Modify and optimize historical documents, including maps, reports, engineering drawings, etc. with a high degree of accuracy
  • Develop and present demonstratives and animations in jury and bench trials
  • Lead document design for public-facing materials
  • Provide document layout and graphic design support for summary reports
  • Prepare visual presentation materials, banners, signage, and handouts for public meetings
  • Ensure compliance with ADA requirements for print and digital materials
  • Support marketing team in specialized graphics development
  • Develop branded templates for social media graphics, videos, collateral, and proposal materials, as needed
  • Support the development of more detailed marketing collateral for various service areas, including infographics, brochures, illustrations, presentations, etc.
  • Understand and implement proper use of brand and identity guidelines for both internal corporate materials and external client branding guidelines
  • Coordinate with print vendors and other outside parties on specifications and logistics of print materials

Illustrative Work Products:

  • Prepare a timeline motion graphic communicating the changes in historical engineering operations as compared to evolving environmental regulations
  • Work with our engineers to develop a 3D animation demonstrating contaminant flow patterns on an industrial property over time
  • Reformat a community Climate Action Plan from Microsoft Word to a magazine-style digital report with visualizations and photography incorporated throughout
  • Prepare flow diagram depicting the steps of bringing a carbon offset project from ideation to generating credits
  • Create a custom “coloring book” as a client giveaway for a corporate event

Required Qualifications

  • Formal graphic design training and education plus at least five years of work experience
  • Strong illustration and animation skills
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign, Photoshop, Premier Pro, and Illustrator
  • Existing subscriptions to the software necessary to perform work described herein
  • Experience designing specifically for social media
  • Ability to translate technical information visually for a layperson audience
  • Ability to prioritize and manage short- and long-term assignments
  • Familiarity with ADA compliance requirements for print and digital materials
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide diplomatic and constructive comments to internal clients

Additional Optional Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of engineering and environmental industry terminology and procedures (environmental engineering/consulting industry experience a plus)
  • Experience filming and editing video content
