Your Role
The CAD designer is responsible for using CAD equipment to provide support to Engineers by preparing routine layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches and diagrams. You will report to the Engineering Manager.
This position is located in New Hudson, MI. This is a contract role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Use computer assisted design/drafting (Solid Edge) equipment and software to develop designs.
- Create and revise production drawings (detail and assembly drawings).
- Make final sketch of proposed drawing, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of multiple parts to whole structure or project.
- Sketches rough layout of machine and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages, and location of holes.
- Use knowledge of several machines, engineering practices, mathematics, materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
- Drafts detailed multiview drawings of machine and products.
- Draws finished designs from sketches.
- Update Drafting and Engineering Standards.
- Responsible for Operating Teamcenter software to control documents and initiate workflows.
- Communicate with Tooling, QA, Engineering, and Manufacturing regarding new and revised prints.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports, operating instructions and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- High skill level in SolidEdge CAD software or equivalent CAD package. Skilled in PC usage and associated software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and Powerpoint. Ability to learn new graphic software to compliment the presentation of new SolidEdge designs.
- Associate’s degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Math preferred, and/or equivalent experience and training.
- Experience with PDM/PLM document control systems a plus.
EDUCATION OR QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
