Job Description:

The Obsidian Theatre Festival is seeking a Graphic Artist with experience in Theatre and Musical Theatre. The Graphic Artist will support the Senior Creative Producer in creating and delivering superior graphic designs for the Obsidian Theatre Festival. They will develop creative assets for various projects, contribute to layout and typography decisions, and perform office management tasks. They will also attend virtual meetings and assist with visual branding needs.

Requirements:

  • Experience working on a variety of projects such as musicals, straight plays, cabarets, and new work
  • Familiarity and/or working knowledge of Non-Profit, Commercial, Regional, or Touring Theatrical productions
  • Intermediate to Expert skill level in Adobe Photoshop
  • Strong organizational, time management, and administrative skills
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing and social media best practices
  • Excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of computer proficiency with knowledge of Google Suite

Other Information:

The position is a contract role with a flat fee of $4,950 per year. The workload is estimated to average 10 hours per week before and after production weeks, and 20-30 hours during production weeks. The Graphic Artist will be required to be in-person for the performances in June and work from home before and after production weeks. The job location is a hybrid remote setup in Detroit, MI.

All Obsidian Theatre Festival staff, artists, creative teams, crews, and ushers are required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19, with exceptions for qualifying disabilities or religious exemptions. The festival emphasizes health and safety guidelines and COVID-19 protocols.
