Job Description

We are seeking a talented and passionate individual with a focus on community and writing to join our team and contribute to the CivicAspen newsletter. As the first hire, you will play a crucial role in researching, writing, and editing articles that inform and inspire our readership on various local civil and political issues.

Responsibilities

• Content Creation:
• Research and write engaging articles covering topics such as city council meetings, local elections, community events, and civic initiatives.
• Conduct interviews with local stakeholders, officials, and community members for insights and quotes.
• Ensure all content is accurate, well-researched, and follows journalistic standards.
• Newsletter Production:
• Collaborate to develop content ideas, themes, and story angles for each newsletter.
• Assist in editing and proofreading to maintain consistency in tone and quality.
• Format articles and multimedia content for digital distribution.
• Community Engagement:
• Monitor and respond to reader feedback and engage in community events and forums.
• Build relationships with local organizations, activists, and leaders for content sources.

Qualifications

• Ability to be in Aspen, CO or engage in our community civic health mission.
• Proven writing experience, preferably with a focus on local news or civic issues.
• Strong writing and storytelling skills.
• Excellent research skills, attention to detail, and ability to verify facts.
• Familiarity with AP style, journalistic ethics, and standards.
• Proficiency in digital content creation and publishing tools.
• Passion for civic engagement, community empowerment, and social impact.

• Job Type: Part-time
• Pay: $21.02 - $25.32 per hour
• Expected Hours: 10 - 20 per week
