Job Description

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking a Web Developer (PHP) in the IT Division, reporting to the Website Coordinator. This role involves enhancing and securing multiple WordPress applications to support highway safety, emergency messaging, and public outreach programs. The position will require on-site work 4 days a week, with responsibilities including:

  • Developing, maintaining, and optimizing features for desktop and mobile applications.
  • Creating new features aligned with business requirements.
  • Managing vendor support for application maintenance and enhancement.
  • Collaborating using agile methodologies and best practices.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should meet the following requirements:

  • Experience: Considerable software implementation experience; Required: 5 Years
  • Proficiency in PHP: Required: 5 Years
  • Understanding of WordPress architecture: Required: 5 Years
  • Understanding of SQL: Required: 5 Years
  • Understanding of REST API: Required: 5 Years
  • Ability to work as a team member on web development projects end-to-end: Required: 5 Years
  • Knowledge of back-end/infrastructure maintenance and optimization, UX/UI principles: Required: 5 Years
  • Knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript): Required: 5 Years
  • Knowledge of secure coding practices: Required: 5 Years
  • Bachelor’s degree in information sciences, computer science, or related field (or equivalent experience): Required: N/A
  • Outstanding communication skills: Required: N/A

Additional Information

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $65.00 - $70.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
