Job Description

Job Title: Junior Commissioning Editor, Documentaries and Factual Entertainment

The department’s purpose is to create documentaries and factual entertainment programmes that inform, challenge, and entertain, reflecting modern Britain. The position is part of Channel 4’s 4Skills training programme, aimed at those looking to build a career in TV commissioning, specifically within the Documentaries and Factual Entertainment genre. The role offers real-world experience, hands-on training, and mentorship to understand the commissioning process from content evaluation to production.

Requirements

Eligibility:

  • Must be 18 years or older at the time the scheme begins.
  • Minimum of 3-6 years’ experience, ideally at a producer level.
  • Must be based within a commutable distance to the Channel 4 hub office.

Essential Experience & Skills:

  • Strong background in TV production or development, particularly in Documentaries and Factual Entertainment.
  • A genuine passion for Documentaries and Factual Entertainment programming.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and grow in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience with independent production companies is beneficial.
  • Basic understanding of financial, legal, and compliance aspects of TV production.
  • Strong communication skills for managing internal and external relationships.
  • Resilience and drive to handle competing priorities and stay focused under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive training and mentorship from a Senior Commissioning Editor in the commissioning process.
  • Evaluate content and provide detailed feedback to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Collaborate with various departments to understand the commissioning process.
  • Assist in sourcing and commissioning new documentaries and factual shows.
  • Build relationships with diverse talent and production companies.
  • Learn about budget management, contracts, and OFCOM regulations.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and participate in strategy discussions.

Other Information

Basic Salary: Starting from £66,938.00 per annum.

Hybrid Working: A 60/40 working pattern, with three office days per week.
