Job Description

Discover a career in your hands at HMRC. This role is focused on making complex information simple and accessible. HMRC seeks content designers to help design end-to-end services based on user needs, working within a multi-disciplinary team to transform HR, Finance, and Procurement services for HMRC and associated departments.

The Content Designer will work on creating or changing content across digital and offline channels that helps users achieve their goals and supports government policy intent. This role requires proven experience in designing user-centered content and involves collaboration with other design professionals and business stakeholders.

Requirements

As a Content Designer, you will need to:

  • Line manage, support, and mentor Junior Content Designers.
  • Map user journeys and processes.
  • Use best practices, data, and research to design and iterate usable and accessible content.
  • Contribute to content strategies for portfolios of work.
  • Build collaborative relationships with stakeholders through workshops and pair-writing sessions.
  • Actively participate in design communities within HMRC and across government.
  • Seek new learning opportunities and improve through peer feedback.

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience in coaching and mentoring content designers, providing constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrated skill in developing accessible content and adhering to style guidelines.
  • Experience in journey mapping and needs analysis to identify content gaps.
  • Ability to use metrics and user feedback to inform content design.
  • Experience in communicating design decisions effectively to various stakeholders.

Technical Skills

Applicants will be assessed on technical skills including: content design technical skills, user-centered design, user focus, and stakeholder relationship management per the Government Digital and Data Profession Capability Framework.
