Job Description

You will support transformative public-sector cloud initiatives—specifically at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) by driving scalable, secure architectures that enhance transparency and modernize claims processing within the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA). From optimizing deployments to improving system reliability and compliance, your contributions will streamline services, empower teams, and directly improve benefit delivery for Veterans and their families.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain AWS cloud environments.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates.
• Monitor system health and performance metrics; implement solutions that enhance fault tolerance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to implement secure cloud configurations and meet FedRAMP and agency-specific compliance standards.
• Participate in cloud migration planning, execution, and optimization.
• Document architecture patterns, SOPs, playbooks, and technical specifications that drive operational consistency.
• Support incident response and root cause analysis for cloud-related issues, minimizing downtime and disruption.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering or systems administration.
• Strong proficiency in managing AWS cloud services.
• Familiarity with DevOps tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and configuration management systems (e.g., Jenkins, Ansible).
• Demonstrated experience with security protocols, access controls, and cloud governance policies.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure and application issues in production environments.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Pass a government background check, including fingerprinting.
