Job Description

WPRI-TV is seeking a part-time freelance TV photojournalist to join our news team. Television news photojournalists combine artistic talent and technical expertise to gather information, shoot video, edit and deliver creative visual news stories for broadcast television and online platforms. Our team provides accurate and high-quality journalism to the southern New England area.

Requirements

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

• Gather video and information in the field, work closely with reporters and other newsroom staff, and deliver content quickly.
• Shoot and edit video stories under tight deadlines.
• Operate microwave, satellite live trucks, IP based live transmission gear, and other broadcast equipment.
• Willing and able to work any and all shifts as necessary, including overnights/early mornings, days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Cross-trained as newscast show editors.
• Present a professional image as a representation of the station at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Specialized Skills:

• Demonstrate solid ethical news judgment and attention to detail.
• Understand basic storytelling, shooting, lighting, audio, and editing techniques.
• Excellent communication skills and maintain a positive work environment through active teamwork.

Education and Experience:

• Previous newsgathering experience is preferred.
• Include a link to recent work with application.
• Proficiency in Adobe Premiere or similar editing applications.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Environment/Mental/Physical Requirements

Must be able to operate computers, cameras, and vehicles in a high-stress environment with deadline pressures and the demands of breaking news. The position requires day-to-day multi-tasking and managing multiple projects simultaneously with frequent changes in direction and priority. Transport of equipment weighing up to 50 lbs is necessary. Position often requires work in outdoor conditions including extreme temperatures, rain, snow, and severe weather events. A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required.
