Adaptive Learning Platform (Phase 1 & 2).

I am looking for a skilled backend developer to build the foundational components and core platform features for an adaptive learning platform. This project is the first major phase of a larger development plan and will focus on establishing a robust, scalable backend system.

The Scope In short:
The scope includes implementing a PostgreSQL database schema (13+ tables), a Django REST Framework API with secure JWT authentication, and OpenAPI documentation. Additional requirements are to set up Dockerized development environments, CI/CD using GitHub Actions, and implement robust authentication and authorization (including role-based access). Phase 2 includes developing course management and progress tracking APIs, as well as a basic assessment engine with support for various question types and automated scoring.

Candidates should have deep expertise in Python, Django, PostgreSQL, Docker, and past experience in EdTech or education-related platforms.

The Scope In details:

Phase 1 - Foundation (T1.x)

• T1.1: Database Schema Implementation: Implement a complete PostgreSQL database schema with over 13 tables to support core educational entities, content management, and student progress tracking. Deliverables include the schema file, migration scripts, and sample data.

• T1.2: Core API Framework Setup: Set up a Django REST Framework foundation, including basic CRUD operations for all database entities, JWT token authentication, and OpenAPI 3.0 documentation generation. The API will include endpoints for user, course, module, progress, and assessment management.

• T1.3: Authentication & Authorization System: Implement a comprehensive security framework with JWT token management, role-based access control (Student, Instructor, Admin), and secure password handling with bcrypt hashing.

• T1.4: Development Environment & CI/CD: Create a containerized development environment using Docker Compose and establish a GitHub Actions CI/CD pipeline for automated linting, testing, and security scanning.

Phase 2 - Core Platform (T2.x)

• T2.1: Course Management System: Develop a complete course management API with CRUD operations, content upload capabilities, and advanced features like prerequisite validation and course analytics endpoints.

• T2.2: Student Progress Tracking System: Implement a comprehensive progress tracking API to provide real-time updates on module completion, time spent, and skill mastery with confidence scores.

• T2.3: Basic Assessment Engine: Build a foundational assessment engine that supports multiple-choice, true/false, and code completion question types. The engine must handle automated scoring, detailed feedback, and anti-cheating measures.

Ideal Skills and Experience:

• Proficiency: Deep expertise in Python, Django, and Django REST Framework.
• Database: Strong experience with PostgreSQL database design, schema implementation, and query optimization.
• DevOps: Solid understanding of Docker and CI/CD best practices using GitHub Actions.
• API & Authentication: Experience in building RESTful APIs and implementing secure authentication systems with JWT.
• Domain Knowledge: Previous experience developing backend systems for educational technology (EdTech) platforms, such as a course management system or a learning management system.
