Job Description

We are a newsletter called The Hustle that covers business, tech, and the economy. We are seeking writers to contribute reported feature stories to our Sunday newsletter. Our audience consists of about 2 million newsletter subscribers, and our Sunday features often receive tens of thousands more views online, garnering attention from reputable sources like Pocket and the Sunday Long Read.

Requirements

We are looking for reported features focused on business and the economy. Stories should range from fun and interesting economic topics—similar to “Planet Money” in a newsletter format—to profiles of individuals or businesses that are successfully challenging conventional norms. We also appreciate engaging explainers about current topics in the business and economy sectors.

The ideal submissions will go deeper than surface-level news and offer unique perspectives. If a story is interesting, fun, and related to business or the economy, it may be suitable for our newsletter.

Writers should aim to produce short features (800 to 1,000 words) and long features (1,300-2,000 words).

Compensation and Work Details

Compensation typically ranges from $0.80 to $1 per word, depending on the extent of reporting. This is a part-time role, with expected pay between $70.00 and $120.00 per hour. Writers are expected to commit around 6 to 12 hours per week and can work remotely.
