Job Description

Recurrent is seeking a talented script writer/editor to join our Military Brands team, which includes renowned titles like Task & Purpose and The War Zone. The ideal candidate will possess a strong voice, excellent research abilities, and a passion for creating engaging scripts for an audience of active-duty service members, veterans, and military enthusiasts. This contract position offers a monthly salary of $6,000-$7,000 and requires the ability to work in a fast-paced production environment while collaborating with producers, editors, and on-camera talent.

Core Responsibilities

• Pitch and write original longform video scripts (1,500-3,000 words) weekly on military tech, doctrine, tactics, history, geo-politics, and current defense affairs.
• Edit and revise scripts contributed by freelancers for voice, accuracy, flow, and pacing.
• Conduct deep, original research utilizing official documents, open-source intelligence, journalistic reporting, expert interviews, and defense publications.
• Ensure factual accuracy and attribution of all sources in every script.
• Write short companion articles (500–800 words) and occasional standalone pieces (800–2,000 words) based on research and reporting.

Editorial Expectations

• Maintain and enforce Task & Purpose’s factual, conversational, veteran-informed, and slightly irreverent voice.
• Structure scripts appropriately for YouTube, including hooks, transitions, logical flow, and visual support cues.
• Edit freelance drafts critically, ensuring clarity and engagement while flagging missing sources and restructuring when necessary.
• Provide constructive feedback to freelance writers for future improvement.

Workflow & Collaboration

• Work closely with the lead video producer and editor to align on visuals, tone, and storytelling needs.
• Track freelance script assignments, edits, and deadlines in coordination with the team.
• Meet consistent weekly output, producing 1 polished original script and 1-2 freelance script edits.

Preferred Qualifications

• A military background is highly valued.
• Ability to write in a conversational, engaging, and on-brand tone.
• Background in journalism, screenwriting, or creative writing is a plus.
• Familiarity with YouTube SEO best practices.
