Job Description

Position: Social Media Strategist

Location: Petaluma, California

Type: Temporary

Pay Rate: $29-$30/hour

Schedule: Monday - Friday; 9am-1pm

This role will focus on digital marketing activities, creating impactful campaigns, and leveraging social media to increase visibility and engagement. The ideal candidate will be detailed oriented, follow direction well, and be comfortable with content creation, image resizing, and posting across various platforms including Constant Contact.

Requirements

• Excellent graphic design and layout skills
• Proficiency with Canva, Constant Contact, Adobe Acrobat, and WordPress (ideal)
• Strong knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Nextdoor, LinkedIn), including posting, pulling metrics, and optimizing content
• Understanding of website design and ability to troubleshoot minor coding errors
• Strong writing, editing, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to stay current with social media trends, content management practices, and analytics
• Experience in communication/public engagement programs a plus

Job Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic communication plans in consultation with City management to promote initiatives and priorities
• Plan, develop, and implement a comprehensive communication/public relations program to enhance the City’s brand, image, and position
• Design, write, and distribute engaging content across multiple platforms, integrating the City’s vision and strategic goals
• Manage and maintain multimedia tools including press release, website content, social media channels, and e-newsletters
• Create, resize, and optimize images for social media platforms
• Oversee emergency communications, coordinating mass notifications and supporting public safety messaging
• Support city-wide messaging, including distributing key internal communications
• Assist with planning and executing public relations strategies, special projects, and community events
