Job Description

84.51° is a retail data science, insights, and media company that focuses on creating personalized shopping experiences through data. The Senior Data Scientist role within the Enterprise Pricing & Promotions (EPP) team requires a blend of software engineering and data science skills. The main focus of this role is to optimize pricing and promotion decisions at Kroger, utilizing advanced algorithms and machine learning techniques to deploy and maintain innovative pricing solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Support the deployment, automation, and maintenance of Pricing & Promotion solutions using machine learning and optimization techniques.
  • Develop and contribute to the Pricing & Promotion core optimization package with modular programming methods.
  • Build and maintain production-grade solutions for managing machine learning and optimization models.
  • Scale and maintain machine learning and optimization solutions using best practices in DevOps and MLOps.
  • Collaborate with 84.51° and Kroger Product and Engineering teams to scale solutions effectively.
  • Understand business requirements to manage scale, risk, and accuracy trade-offs for maximum value.
  • Adhere to quality assurance and documentation standards (GitHub, Sphinx, Confluence).
  • Drive innovation based on best practices from academia and industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Applied Statistics, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience with advanced algorithms, programming languages, or technologies.
  • 2+ years of experience in developing cloud-based software solutions with an emphasis on scalability and reliability.
  • 2+ years of experience in tech consulting, retail, or related professional services is preferred.
  • Experience in developing and deploying pricing solutions is a plus.
  • Strong skills in Python, Spark, and cloud technologies.
  • Familiarity with SDLC best practices and experience with CI/CD and MLOps for software development.
  • Experience with tools such as Azure, Spark, Databricks, Automation, and MLOPS tools.
  • Experience in building and deploying large-scale algorithmic solutions in a production environment.
  • Comfort with independent learning of new technologies and the use of unfamiliar tools.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment (Product, Engineering, Data Science).
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially regarding technical topics.

Additional Information

Pay Transparency and Benefits:

  • The stated salary range is $97,000 - $166,750 USD, representing the span across geographic markets. Actual offers will depend on various factors such as experience and market alignment.
  • Benefits offered include health, dental, vision, 401(k) with matching, health savings accounts, a hybrid work environment, and significant paid time off (5 weeks of vacation, 7 wellness days, 3 floating holidays, and 6 company-paid holidays).
