Job Description
Posted Monday, August 18, 2025, 11:00 PM. The UX Designer is a mid-level, execution-focused role responsible for creating user-centered experiences across IHS’s digital ecosystem, including the ScholarsEdge platform. Reporting to the Senior Application Development Engineer, this role collaborates with developers, product leads, and AI specialists to translate complex requirements into clean, consistent interfaces. The UX Designer aims to shape AI-enhanced experiences that make complex data clear and accessible, ultimately amplifying the impact of scholars and facilitating meaningful change.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States.
- 3+ years of UX/UI design experience in digital product or web application environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, or related field preferred (equivalent practical experience will be considered).
- Proficiency in Figma, including experience with components, variants, auto layout, and prototyping.
- Basic understanding of web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) with experience collaborating with engineers.
- Familiarity with design best practices, including accessibility.
- Curiosity about emerging technologies and AI’s evolving role in UX/UI workflows.
- Comfortable in a collaborative environment with potential to expand UX strategy ownership as the platform grows.
- Prior experience in Agile/Scrum environments preferred.
- Experience designing tools for research or academic communities preferred.
- Knowledge and appreciation of classical-liberal values and the IHS mission.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to translate requirements and feedback into user-centered designs (flows, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes).
- Execute user experience design within product leadership priorities, delivering production-ready designs.
- Drive the design workflow in Figma, ensuring efficient collaboration and integration of the design system into development.
- Work with engineering leads to align design decisions with technical realities and minimize rework.
- Ensure IHS branding and tone are accurately represented in ScholarsEdge and related digital products.
- Explore innovative interface solutions for complex data systems (interactive visualizations, advanced search tools, etc.).
- Support usability testing to validate design decisions and enhance user experience.

Job Summary: This role requires travel to the IHS office in Arlington, VA for two in-person gatherings each year.
