Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable programmer to join our team at the Population Research Center. The role involves assisting with programming data analysis tools and developing natural language processing, speech emotion recognition, and cognitive games and tools for use in research studies. Additionally, the individual will help maintain a website hub for scheduling training for research assistants involved in the projects. This position provides experience in clear communication, decision-making, problem-solving, information manipulation, idea construction, and achieving strategic goals. The position is expected to continue until December 31, 2026, and will require working up to 19 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain natural language processing tools, speech emotion recognition, and cognitive games used within research studies.
• Develop and maintain a website containing data analysis tools for researchers.
• Create any necessary tools that the professor and research assistants require for the research studies.
• Attend weekly meetings to discuss the development process.
• Participate in bi-weekly meetings for debriefing and feedback after each cohort.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
• Completion of Operating Systems coursework.
• Experience with Git and source control management.
• Experience with Python, JavaScript, and React.
• Experience with web applications and sprints.
• Experience with creating Python environments (conda).

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with web development.
• Experience with TypeScript.
• Experience with Firebase and Tabby.

Salary and Working Conditions

Salary Range: $21.00/hour

• Typical office environment.
