Job Description

That’s No Moon is an independent studio of storytellers and game-makers focused on creating narrative-driven experiences. We are looking for a highly skilled Senior VFX Artist to craft volumetrics, environment, and bespoke FX for in-game and cinematic AAA content. You will be part of a passionate team aiming to push the boundaries of real-time visual effects and set new standards for realism, gameplay, and storytelling.

Responsibilities

• Produce photorealistic real-time visual effects including explosions, fire, weapon FX, smoke, clouds, and debris using Unreal Engine and tools such as Houdini.
• Collaborate with Environment, Lighting, Animation and Design teams to support both artistic and gameplay requirements for VFX across gameplay and cinematics.
• Help research new workflows and contribute to documentation.
• Ensure VFX content is performant and within budget.
• Work with Leads and Production to estimate and plan VFX tasks, breakdown deliverables, and share updates.

Requirements & Skills

• Experience with Unreal Engine, Niagra, and Blueprint.
• Experience creating realistic and compelling VFX for Games, Film/TV, or both.
• Understanding of in-game VFX performance, tuning and memory budgets.
• Understanding of modeling, shading, and animation workflows.
• Strong understanding of PBR concepts and physics.
• Portfolio of real-time FX work, preferably in a photorealistic style.
• 3+ years of experience in VFX for games, visual effects, film, etc.
• (Bonus) Experience with Houdini, 3ds Max, Maya, etc.
• (Bonus) Experience with Python scripting.
• (Bonus) Experience working in film/TV.

Qualities

• Self-motivated and able to work well in a multi-discipline team environment.
• Strong artistic eye for volume, energy, weight, density, timing, and other dynamic aesthetics.

Additional Information

This position is a temporary “Project Hire” role with an anticipated assignment duration that may vary. TNM Project Hire employees are eligible for various benefit plans such as medical, dental, vision, 401(k) matching, and flexible PTO.

The estimated base pay range for this role is $120,000 - $150,000. Please note that we are only considering candidates in North America at this time.
