Job Description

This position provides senior-level DevOps platform management and support for the efficient delivery of complex, multi-platform mainframe and web-based business applications and systems. The DevOps platforms are required to be available 24x7x365 and must function reliably and securely. Responsibilities include system administration, consulting, technical support, and coordination of application delivery between development teams and the Division of Enterprise Technology at the Department of Administration.

The role involves working across all phases of the systems development life cycle for the DevOps platform and application development toolchain, including analyzing current processes, planning, eliciting requirements, designing, developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining applications. Responsibilities also include leading troubleshooting efforts, providing training for technical staff, and consulting on the use of technology systems. This position supports the adoption of DevOps throughout the organization through research and discovery methods for sustainability.

Requirements

Must Haves:

• Advanced skill and knowledge of Linux Operating System administration, monitoring, backup, and recovery (3-5 years).
• Advanced skill and knowledge of Linux server system security concepts and IT security best practices (3-5 years).
• Advanced skill using scripting languages such as Unix shell, Python, Ansible, and Perl (3-5 years).
• Advanced skill using source code repositories such as GitHub, GitLab, or Git (3-5 years).
• Advanced ability to collaborate effectively in a team and share expertise.
• Advanced willingness to learn about new technologies and how to utilize them for automating business systems.
• Advanced ability to learn and work independently.
• Intermediate skills supporting and working with DevOps tools such as Jira, SonarQube, or Dynatrace (1-3 years).
• Intermediate skill in analyzing, troubleshooting, and debugging issues related to application environments and system software (1-3 years).
• Intermediate skills in identifying and investigating system development issues (1-3 years).
• Strong innovation skills with the ability to analyze system modifications for accurate specifications.
• Ability to effectively communicate with departmental customers, vendors, and management.

Nice to Haves:

• Beginning skill in administration, configuration, and maintenance of web application server software such as IBM WebSphere.
• Knowledge of multi-tier application systems and development life cycle processes.
• Familiarity with application development frameworks such as Spring, Struts, Hibernate.
• Skill with incident, problem, and change management principals and software such as Ivanti, Cherwell, or Jira.
• Knowledge of application test methodologies and procedures.
