Job Summary
We are looking for a part-time photographer to join and support our team from January 2026 through June 2026, working 20 hours per week. There is a possibility of extending the position through December 2026, depending on performance and departmental budget.
The mode of work for this position is hybrid, requiring a balance of in-person and remote work. We will work with the photographer to develop a schedule for this position, but some nights and weekends will be required.
As a photographer, you will work within a collaborative team within the Michigan Engineering Office of Communications and Marketing (C&M), which includes other photographers and video producers, writers, designers, a social media team, content and marketing strategists, web developers, etc.
This position will report directly to the Multimedia Manager at C&M.
Responsibilities
- Capturing professional, compelling photography across a variety of assignments, including:
- Official faculty, staff or student portraits
- Event coverage, including candid photography and group shots
- Editorial-style coverage of research developments, educational innovations, or other faculty or student activities
- Marketing-style photo shoots
- Processing and editing photos and adding required metadata
- Uploading and managing photos within a digital asset management system
- Engaging with faculty, students, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders within assignments
- Maintaining a strong working knowledge of photography equipment and editing software (Our office primarily uses Canon / Adobe / Photo Mechanic)
- Collaborate with other communications and marketing staff through various communication and project management tools
Position Breakdown:
85% Taking, editing and distributing photos
15% Team meetings, collaborating on projects, communicating with teammates
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of relevant experience in photography within a communications, marketing, journalism or related field.
- Can set and manage priorities, handle multiple assignments and deadlines, and operate in a flexible, professional manner.
- Open to receiving and giving feedback.
- Skilled using a variety of photography equipment and software, and able to adapt and learn new tools.
- Some flexibility in work schedule to accommodate occasional evening or weekend assignments.
Desired Qualifications
- An active driver’s license for the option of travel to photo shoots.
Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.
Additional Information
- This is a temporary position through June 31, 2026 with possible renewal based on funding extension.
- Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Routinely moves audio/visual equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across campus for various classroom and event needs
- Requires the ability to travel to various locations to conduct work
- May require work during early mornings, nights, and/or weekends.
