Job Description

You’ll work with the Communications Specialist and the Events & Engagement Coordinator for the College of Arts, Sciences & Education at UM-Flint to create digital and social content that shares the stories of CASE’s academic units.

Responsibilities

This position involves collaborating with subject-matter experts within the units to gather pertinent information and resources, and then working with the communications team to create content such as static images, short-form videos (less than 1 minute), long-form videos (less than 5 minutes), audio stories, and more. You’ll collaborate with the communications team to develop digital content for the CASE blog, email, social media, and website channels, as needed.

You should be comfortable with:

  • Taking photos and videos around campus and during CASE-related events
  • Interviewing students, faculty, and staff to produce short- and long-form videos
  • Using Canva to create short-form videos, static images, slideshows, and more
  • Developing a consistent posting strategy and schedule, in collaboration with the communications team, that covers the primary CASE accounts as well as other unit accounts as needed
  • Writing copy for social posts that inspire interest, curiosity, and joy
  • Pitching creative ideas, incorporating feedback, iterating, and collaborating with internal units and communication teams
  • Adhering to the brand guidelines outlined by U-M and UM-Flint

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a current UM-Flint Student
  • Be a dependable self-starter who can break down projects into manageable tasks and adhere to deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Possess a sense of humor and curiosity!

Desired Qualifications

It would be great if you had experience or interest in any of the following:

  • Creating digital animated content
  • Creating digital content for use on the blog, email, or website
  • Using other audio and video software to produce audio and video stories (Audacity, Garageband, iMovie, Adobe Premiere, etc.)

Work Schedule

The majority of your hours will be completed in the CASE Dean’s Office, Tuesdays through Thursdays, with some remote and fieldwork to cover events and source content, roughly 10 hours per week.

Modes of Work

Hybrid

The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.

Background Screening
