Job Description

Paramount Global is seeking a highly skilled Senior Product Designer (contractor) to join the CBS News Digital team. This role is central to shaping how audiences experience CBS News on digital platforms. The designer will create intuitive, elegant, and impactful experiences that help users stay informed in real time and foster deeper engagement with journalism. Senior Product Designers at CBS News will balance strategic thinking with hands-on creation, leading design initiatives in collaboration with product managers, engineers, editors, and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts for CBS News digital, ensuring user-centered, accessible experiences that align with the CBS News brand.
  • Design for real-time news consumption, focusing on clarity and usability across digital platforms.
  • Develop and iterate on wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups based on stakeholder feedback and user research.
  • Conduct user research and usability testing to validate design decisions related to breaking news, live video, and long-form journalism.
  • Maintain and evolve the CBS News design system for consistency across platforms.
  • Partner with developers to ensure seamless implementation of designs and address design-related issues during development cycles.
  • Communicate design strategies and present work to stakeholders, linking design decisions to user needs and business goals.
  • Champion accessibility and inclusivity to ensure products are usable by the widest possible audience.

Qualifications

You have -

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience designing consumer-facing digital products, preferably in content-rich, media, or news platforms.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in mobile and web design focused on clarity, usability, and visual excellence.
  • Mastery of design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Miro, Lovable, and a deep understanding of user-centered design principles.
  • Experience designing for responsive, multi-platform experiences.
  • Strong visual design skills, with expertise in interaction design, typography, and information hierarchy.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in presenting and justifying design decisions to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • A meticulous attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality, accessibility, and trustworthiness.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing for news, media, or live content platforms.
  • Familiarity with real-time data visualization and interactive graphics.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Experience with motion design and animation to enhance storytelling and engagement.
  • A strong understanding of audience engagement patterns in digital news consumption.

Additional Information

Hiring Salary Range: $57.00 - $67.00
