Job Description

This role will play a key role as a Senior Backend Engineer at Torch, where you will evolve our platform’s architecture, build high-performance distributed systems, and develop agentic workflows to support next-generation AI-enabled product experiences. You’ll design backend systems for LLM-powered features at scale, manage agents for data fetching, implement workflows for data ingestion, and ensure security and compliance.

You will experience a balance of startup excitement with ownership in a lean team, while also enjoying a stable working environment. The company has an engaged customer base for AI and LLM experiments and production implementation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, integrate, and operate LLM-powered and agentic workflows for claims data.
• Build and maintain HIPAA-compliant systems for sensitive healthcare data.
• Lead decisions regarding security, compliance, cost, performance, and scaling of AI workloads.
• Implement robust monitoring, alerting, and observability systems for AI pipelines and production modules.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, and operations teams to integrate AI capabilities into Torch’s platform.
• Mentor and guide other engineers on best practices in backend engineering and agentic workflows.

Requirements

MUST HAVE SKILLS:

• Minimum of 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and deploying secure, compliant workloads.
• Demonstrated record of building scalable, secure, and reliable systems.
• Comfortable collaborating with non-engineers, including product managers, designers, and business stakeholders.

Bonus:

• Experience leading AI infrastructure projects end-to-end in a startup environment.
• Contributed to architecture or coding standards for engineering teams.
• Experience in early-stage product ideation and design for AI-enabled features.
• Hands-on experience with containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code tooling (Terraform, Pulumi) for provisioning and managing cloud resources.

Interview Stages

The interview process will consist of three interviews.

Location: NYC, NY working at a Healthcare Company in the dental related field (Hybrid - in office Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday).
