Job Description
For nearly 40 years, Naughty Dog has been crafting best-selling, critically acclaimed games that push the boundaries of narrative, gameplay, and technology. With recent releases such as The Last of Us Part II Remastered and a remake of The Last of Us Part I for the PS5, we are currently seeking a Senior Environment Concept Artist to join our team. This role entails creating compelling environments that align with our narrative-driven worlds, collaborating with various departments, and developing artistic solutions to technical challenges to enhance storytelling and gameplay experiences.
Requirements
What you will do:
- Create concept art aligned with the artistic goals through all phases of game development.
- Collaborate with the Art Director and creative leadership to visually develop the game world and locations.
- Communicate effectively and accept direction and critical review of your work.
- Work with Marketing and PR teams to provide key materials for various platforms.
- Partner with leads, Art Directors, and Game Directors for visual guides and tasks.
- Create mood boards and iterative sketches for theme direction.
- Collaborate with other departments to address production needs and logistics.
- Provide paint-overs and call-out sheets to assist 3D artists.
- Offer feedback on concepts and 3D models to outsourcing teams.
- Manage Miro board and network folder for concept tracking.
- Strengthen intra and inter-team communication for high-quality results.
- Share knowledge of the latest game development tools and workflows with the team.
What skills you will use:
- Strong art foundations and design skills with modern industry-standard tools.
- Active improvement of skills and awareness of industry techniques and tools.
- 7+ years of experience as a concept artist on at least one AAA title.
- Ability to receive art direction and perform well in a team collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated ability to create high-quality concepts showcased in a strong portfolio.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Keen eye for form, lighting, colors, and composition.
- Knowledge of working with various 3D packages for concept work and collaboration.
Bonus Skills:
- Strong understanding of general 3D and game art production techniques.
- Some understanding of 3D modeling software to create mockups or manipulate existing files.

Compensation
The estimated USA base pay range for this zone (Los Angeles area) is $143,700โ$179,600 USD. This role may be eligible for additional compensation packages, including annual bonuses and other incentive plans.
