Job Description

Pickaway County Public Health is seeking an experienced freelance WordPress professional to modernize and improve our existing website. This is a website overhaul, not a full build. We are intentionally seeking an individual freelancer, not a large firm or agency.

Our website is a critical tool for providing residents with access to public health information, services, and resources. The goal of this project is to make the site more user-friendly, modern, visually appealing, and easy to maintain, while preparing it for a future online payment portal.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and audit the existing WordPress website
• Improve navigation, usability, and overall user experience
• Refresh visual design while maintaining a professional public-sector look
• Ensure mobile responsiveness and cross-browser compatibility
• Improve accessibility and readability for the general public
• Optimize page layouts and content structure
• Prepare site architecture for future online payment integration (no payment system implementation required at this time)
• Collaborate with internal staff and incorporate feedback

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience overhauling or redesigning WordPress websites
• Strong understanding of user experience (UX) and modern web design standards
• Ability to work independently and meet agreed-upon deadlines
• Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts in plain language
• Portfolio or examples of previous WordPress projects

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with public sector, healthcare, nonprofit, or community-focused organizations
• Ohio-based freelancer or familiarity with local government/public health environments
