Orienta - Senior QA Engineer (Manual & Automation)
QA Engineer is needed in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Client: Orienta
Location: Buenos Aires, B, ar
Contract: Contract
Job Description
This is a remote position.
We are looking for a Senior Quality Engineering (QE) Engineer on behalf of a client that is a leading provider of workers’ compensation and specialized healthcare coordination services. The organization partners with insurance carriers, self-insured employers, and third-party administrators to manage and optimize the delivery of medical and ancillary services for injured workers. Through technology-driven platforms, data-informed processes, and an extensive provider network, the company reduces operational complexity, controls costs, and improves care outcomes across the claims lifecycle.
In this role, you’ll help raise the quality bar through strategic test planning, hands-on automation, and thoughtful delivery across a complex system that includes both legacy and modern components. You will be a key player in shaping how the organization scales quality as it modernizes its technology stack. This role combines ownership of critical quality surfaces with enablement of product engineers and Manual QA, emphasizing risk-based decisions over rigid rules. While product teams are expected to own quality within their domains, the QE team continues to own and maintain cross-cutting end-to-end (E2E) and regression workflows that span multiple product areas or represent systemic risk. This is a 100% remote contractor role, open to candidates based in LATAM.
Responsibilities
Quality Strategy & Judgment
- Apply risk-based thinking to decide what should be tested, how, and at what level (unit, integration, domain E2E, or QE-owned cross-team E2E).
- Help define and evolve quality standards and guardrails that scale across teams without becoming burdensome.
- Identify systemic quality risks and recommend pragmatic improvements in test strategy, architecture, and release practices.
Test Automation & Shared Ownership
- Build and maintain reliable automated tests across UI, API, and integration layers.
- Own and maintain QE-managed E2E and regression suites that span multiple product surfaces or represent shared risk.
- Enable product engineers to write and maintain domain-level tests by providing patterns, helpers, examples, and guidance.
- Continuously improve test stability, signal quality, and execution speed.
Enablement & Developer Experience
- Reduce friction for engineers writing tests by improving test utilities, data setup, environment reliability, and local workflows.
- Partner with engineering teams to help them adopt shared testing frameworks and best practices.
- Act as a consultant and collaborator—helping teams make good quality tradeoffs rather than enforcing rigid rules.
Delivery & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner early with Product and Engineering during design and refinement to ensure testability is built in from the start.
- Collaborate closely with Manual QA to align exploratory testing, release validation, and automation coverage.
- Support predictable delivery by surfacing quality risks early and proposing clear mitigation options.
CI/CD, Release Readiness & Production Learnings
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines with actionable, trustworthy results.
- Help define release readiness signals, smoke tests, and targeted regression coverage.
- Use incident data, production issues, and customer feedback to refine test coverage and ownership over time.
Mentorship & Technical Leadership
- Review automation code and help set quality and maintainability standards.
- Mentor mid-level and nearshore QEs through pairing, reviews, and informal coaching.
- Model strong judgment, clear communication, and a pragmatic approach to quality.
Requirements
- 5+ years in Quality Engineering, Test Automation, or SDET-style roles supporting production software.
- Strong experience building automated tests for UI and APIs using Playwright.
- Proficiency in at least one general-purpose language (TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, C#, Python, etc.).
- Practical understanding of test strategy and tradeoffs in real-world systems.
- Experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Ability to diagnose failures using logs, debugging tools, and system context—not just test output.
- Clear communicator who can explain quality risks and tradeoffs to both engineers and non-technical partners.
Nice to Have
- Experience with desktop application testing, e.g., FlaUI or similar tools.
- Experience owning or contributing to shared test platforms or libraries.
- Experience working in legacy or highly coupled systems.
- Familiarity with observability tools and production validation practices.
- Experience supporting distributed or nearshore teams.
