Job Description

Prose is looking for a part-time Freelance UX Researcher to lead usability testing and user research for Prose’s digital products. This role will be responsible for planning and running tests, synthesizing insights, and delivering clear, actionable recommendations as a senior, independent partner to our product and design teams.

Responsibilities

  • Focus primarily on user testing and usability evaluation for our digital products and experiences.
  • Plan and run usability sessions (moderated and/or unmoderated), synthesize findings, and deliver clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Create concise reports and readouts that help product and design teams quickly understand what to improve and why.
  • Occasionally present findings in a weekly huddle or similar forum, advocating for the user and the work you’ve done.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers and designers, and partner with data/analytics when helpful to strengthen insights.
  • Work independently and proactively within a part-time, flexible schedule (roughly 15–16 hours per week), organizing your time around testing and delivery needs.
  • Help keep the team focused on their core work by owning the research and providing an agnostic, external point of view.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a UX Researcher or a closely related UX role with substantial research responsibility at a beauty and/or direct-to-consumer subscription brand.
  • Strong experience planning, moderating, and analyzing usability tests and user interviews.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently: scoping research, choosing appropriate methods, and guiding teams with clear recommendations.
  • Excellent communication skills: able to tailor the level of detail for different audiences and translate findings into concrete product and UX improvements.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving, iterative product environment with changing priorities and tight timelines.
  • Passion for thoughtful, user-centered digital experiences and collaboration with product and design teams.
  • Bonus: degree in Human Factors, HCI, Design, Cognitive Science, Anthropology, Interaction Design, or a related field.

Engagement Details

  • Part-time freelance / contractor role (approximately 12–16 hours per week).
  • 3 month engagement.
  • $65–$90/hour, depending on experience.
