Job Description

The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) Office of Informatics and Analytics (OIA), Core Informatics unit is currently seeking a FHIR Interoperability Specialist. This role involves coordinating and supporting public health FHIR interoperability activities and related projects. The Specialist will collaborate with OIA members, interoperability subject matter experts, various TDH divisions, and the state IT division, Strategic Technology Solutions (STS) to facilitate HL7 FHIR interoperability projects. The role aims to enhance FHIR interface interoperability across TDH by significantly contributing to strategic FHIR-specific projects, building agency-level readiness for public health FHIR solutions, and supporting HL7 FHIR interoperability projects. The position will also be involved in enhancing TDH electronic data interchange (EDI) infrastructure and architecture in alignment with TDH data modernization efforts.

This role offers exposure and experience in the utilization and development of interoperability standards, such as HL7, and provides opportunities to work on a variety of informatics projects including system integration, interoperability, electronic health record implementation, and public health reporting initiatives. The position may require in-state and possibly out-of-state travel, as well as opportunities for presentation and public speaking. Core Informatics staff may also assist in emergency response situations when needed.
