Job Description

Fireweed AI is an Indigenous-led technology startup from the North, committed to preserving and revitalizing Indigenous languages and cultural knowledge through ethical and innovative technology. The organization addresses the decline of Indigenous languages and gaps in mainstream AI systems by creating community-controlled language models, translation tools, and data governance systems. Combining modern AI research with traditional knowledge, Fireweed AI collaborates with Indigenous leaders, language experts, and community representatives to ensure their technology serves communities. Their mission is to empower Indigenous Nations to protect their languages, uphold sovereignty, and foster cultural resilience.

This is a full-time, on-site Freelance Videographer role located in Vancouver, BC. The Freelance Videographer will be responsible for the planning, shooting, and production of high-quality video content that aligns with the mission and objectives of Fireweed AI. Key responsibilities include operating video cameras, setting up appropriate lighting, and ensuring optimal video and audio quality. The ideal candidate will work on various projects with the goal of visually showcasing the organization’s commitment to cultural preservation and innovation.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Video Production and Shooting Video
• Strong skills in Camera Operation and handling different types of Camera equipment
• Experience with Lighting techniques and setups for professional video production
• Ability to collaborate with a diverse team while maintaining cultural sensitivity and integrity in content creation
• Familiarity with editing software and video post-production processes is a plus
• Strong organizational and time-management skills to meet project deadlines
• Prior experience in stories related to cultural documentation or language preservation is a bonus
