Cinematographer/Videographer for art project [Urgent]
Cinematographer is needed in London, United Kingdom.
Our performance company Dynamite Island is looking for someone to collaborate on the ‘fly-on-the-wall’ filming of an experimental theatre workshop in London, as part of a video art project. We need someone to operate a camera for three days of this five-day workshop, and help advise on planning for the shoot, including sound recording techniques. We are keen to find someone who can bring their own creative perspective to the project, including the challenges of documenting live performance and physical/musical improvisation. ‘Mutual Aid’ is Dynamite Island’s first step into fine art video work: a feature-length, collaboratively conceived ‘video opera’ for exhibition as a series of multi-channel installations, combining recomposed home video, ‘fly-on-the-wall’ footage from a theatre workshop, and original music from various genres and traditions. Supported by Arts Council England and Hinrichsen Foundation. The final stage of the project will be a live theatre workshop involving four performers in a black-box studio at Queen Mary University of London from 9th–13th March. We plan to film and record everything that happens during this workshop to generate raw material to be edited later, using an approach that borrows from musical composition techniques. We will handle the editing process. We need someone to help plan technical logistics ahead of the workshop, including aesthetic considerations like lighting. This could involve a few remote meetings before the workshop, and possibly a site visit. We can borrow some equipment from the university’s film department, and we have a small budget for extra equipment if necessary. The workshop will include unscripted activities, improvisations, musical performances and group discussions, and our aim is to capture compelling and flexible footage and audio to be creatively reworked. We have budgeted for a camera operator to be present on three of the five days (ideally 10th, 12th, and 13th March), to document the events creatively as a co-collaborator. There will be time and space before and during the week for experimentation and discussion, and we hope it will be a rewarding experience. Applications and questions are welcome.
