Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Level Java Developer to support our customer, a major Federal Healthcare Insurance organization. The candidate should have a broad range of knowledge across various software platforms, including Java, Spring Framework, JMS, AWS Cloud, Oracle DB, and Kubernetes. Responsibilities include new development, enhancements, production support/bug fixes, and system releases within the client’s internal platform. This long-term contract opportunity may lead to a conversion to Full-Time Employee (FTE) status, although sponsorships are not permitted. The position is primarily remote with occasional onsite meetings required in Columbia, MD (1-2 times per month).

Requirements

• BS Degree in Computer Science or an additional 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
• Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience with Java (version 21 preferred), Spring Boot Framework, and Java Message Service (JMS).
• Basic AWS experience/concepts knowledge and basic Kubernetes console understanding.
• Basic SQL querying abilities.
• Experience within a Healthcare Payor organization with knowledge of Healthcare Claims (X12 preferred).
• Strong Oracle DB experience.
• Wide breadth of knowledge in Java Open-Source technologies, including Ant, Struts, Spring Boot, XML parser technology, SOA-based infrastructure, jUnit, and HTTPUnit.
• Big Plus: Experience with Angular, Python, Snowflake DB, CloudBees.

Additional Information

• Interview Process: 2 rounds (video then face-to-face).
• Hybrid work model with expectations to be onsite 1-2 times per month for team meetings in Columbia, MD. DMV candidates only.
• Contract duration: 12 months with the option to convert; no H1B candidates allowed.
• This is a backend-focused position, with little frontend work preference, emphasizing strong Java, Spring, and AWS cloud experience.
• Healthcare candidates with claims experience are preferred, specifically with familiarity in formats such as 835, 837, and X12.
• Participation in typical sprint and scrum processes is required to support releases, enhancements, and troubleshooting.
• Collaboration with Business Analysts and Testers is needed to move code through the SDLC process to production.
• Maintenance and operational support of the system will be a part of the role, although off-hour calls are rare.
