Job Description

This is a remote position. We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist with Databricks expertise. The engagement is for an initial three-month contract with a strong possibility for extension. While English is the only mandatory language requirement, proficiency in German is preferred. The position is primarily remote, but occasional onsite visits to Germany are required.

Responsibilities

  • Design & Implementation: Lead the development of advanced personalisation and recommendation use cases, focusing on customer activation and loyalty programmes.
  • Model Development: Build and enhance recommendation models and algorithms using PySpark and Spark SQL within a Databricks environment.
  • Workflow Orchestration: Support the orchestration of recommendation workflows and ensure seamless integration into existing technical architectures.
  • Algorithmic Strategy: Develop configurable, algorithm-based approaches, including regional profit optimisation and the management of multiple recommendation sources.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with central teams to maintain robust governance and control while providing technical input for ongoing architectural decisions.
  • System Integration: Assist with integration tasks involving CRM, CDP, and various downstream activation systems.
  • Stakeholder Management: Work closely with internal business units and prepare high-level deliverables for senior leadership and management committees.

Requirements

  • Technical Expertise: Extensive hands-on development experience with PySpark, Spark SQL, and Databricks - including Notebooks and Orchestration.
  • Data Science and Data Engineering Expertise: Ability to both design sophisticated algorithms and engineer the underlying data pipelines.
  • Specialisation: Proven track record in building and deploying recommendation solutions, ideally within a large-scale retail or marketing context.
  • Analytical Mindset: Ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Communication: Strong professional English skills are essential. German language skills are an advantage.
  • Eligibility: Residency in the EU, EEC, UK, or Switzerland is required.
