Job Description
The Chorus Director will lead and inspire the Ginger Cove Chorus in weekly rehearsals and occasional performances for the Ginger Cove community. The chorus currently has about 22 members of varying musical abilities who gather to share a love of choral singing with a repertoire that includes music from sacred, stage & screen, folk, patriotic, and holiday themes. The chorus fosters an inclusive, supportive environment for older singers.
Key Responsibilities
· Plan and direct a choral program that fulfills the chorus’ desire for choral singing, is within the chorus’ capability, is appealing to the broader resident community, and involves both familiar and new music.
· Lead weekly chorus rehearsals that are supportive and engaging and that help older singers maintain and improve vocal technique and expression.
· Lead occasional performances for the Ginger Cove community that showcase the chorus’ efforts and inspire others in the community to participate with the chorus.
Qualifications
· Experience with choral conducting.
· Ability to convey knowledge of vocal techniques to older singers of varying musical ability and experience.
· Ability to provide piano/keyboard support to the chorus as necessary.
· Ability to supplement rehearsal time with aids to facilitate learning new music.

Schedule
Part time, including rehearsals (typically Tuesday 2:00 to 3:00 or 3:30) most weeks from September through May and evening performances at Ginger Cove in December and May (about 35 total calls).
Compensation
$125 to $200 per rehearsal or performance, depending on experience and funding availability.
Term
July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, renewable annually. This position is immediately open should the successful candidate be available.

· A resume, highlighting your choral conducting experience, and including a reference to a previous employer (or conducting mentor) and a singer who sang under your direction.
· A notional December holiday program for chorus, including sacred (Christian and Jewish) and secular music, and perhaps a few solo or small group pieces, lasting about an hour.
· A description of your approach to leading and engaging a chorus of older adults of varying musical skills and backgrounds.
