Job Description

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Web Developer/Designer for the Effective School Practice Center. The Web Developer/Designer (Wix) will support the development, maintenance, and enhancement of department websites using the Wix platform. This position is responsible for designing and updating web pages, ensuring functionality, accessibility, and alignment with Rutgers branding standards. The role requires strong technical proficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty and staff to translate content and programmatic needs into engaging digital experiences.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Designs, develops, and maintains department websites using the Wix content management system.
  • Creates and updates web pages, including formatting text, images, video, and other multimedia content to ensure a professional and user-friendly layout.
  • Ensures websites are responsive, accessible, and compliant with university digital standards and best practices.
  • Performs routine website maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality assurance testing across browsers and devices.
  • Assists with basic search engine optimization (SEO) and monitor site performance using analytics tools to inform improvements.

Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus two (2) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing websites using Wix, with knowledge of responsive design principles and user experience (UX) best practices.
  • Proficiency in web technologies and digital tools, including basic HTML/CSS, image optimization, content formatting, and familiarity with SEO principles.
  • Strong computer literacy, including experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and website analytics platforms (e.g., Wix Analytics or Google Analytics).
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues, perform quality assurance testing across browsers and devices, and implement timely updates.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and stakeholders to translate project requirements into functional website designs.
