JOB DESCRIPTION

CPI is an analysis and advisory organization focused on finance and policy, dedicated to assisting governments, businesses, and financial institutions in driving economic growth while addressing climate change. The Freelance Data Visualization Designer will collaborate with the global design team to transform complex data sets, quantitative, and qualitative analysis into clear visual stories that resonate with policymakers, regulators, financial professionals, and other stakeholders in the climate finance ecosystem.

Reports to: Senior Design Associate

Contract: through end of 2026, with possibility of renewal

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work with design team members to conceptualize and execute data visualizations, including charts, graphs, tables, maps, and infographics.
• Conduct quality assurance and review all data visualizations for accuracy, usability, and adherence to brand, style, and accessibility guidelines.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

• Proven experience in data visualization and graphic design, with multi-years’ experience or demonstrable equivalent skills.
• Ability to convert technical economics and finance information into accessible visual insights.
• Strong affinity for numbers and quantitative data with the ability to communicate reasoning behind design choices.
• Keen eye for detail and accuracy.
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel.
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator.

Desirable

• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Flourish, Tableau, or similar data visualization tools.
• Intermediate proficiency with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks like D3.
• UX/UI experience in designing interactive data stories and dashboards.
• Mapping and cartography skills with tools like ArcGIS.
• Experience in visual data journalism.
• Understanding of climate policy, climate finance, and/or sustainable development.
• Video production skills for creating animated data visualizations using tools such as Adobe After Effects.

This freelance position is compensated by the hour on a project-to-project basis, with heavier workloads from September to November.
