Job Description

CPI is an analysis and advisory organization focused on finance and policy, aimed at helping governments and financial institutions promote economic growth while addressing climate change. The Freelance Layout Designer will work with the global design team to utilize Adobe InDesign templates to create professional-grade PDF reports ranging from 2 to 50+ pages.

Reports to: Senior Design Associate

Contract: Through the end of 2026, with a possibility of renewal

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinate with design team members to format and design report content in Adobe InDesign.
• Work within established templates, unless instructed otherwise.
• Adhere to best practices related to image handling, color management, and the delivery of design files.
• Occasionally utilize Adobe Illustrator for minor graphic adjustments within reports.
• Conduct thorough reviews of all deliverables to ensure accuracy, optimal legibility, and adherence to brand guidelines.
• Meet deadlines that are discussed and agreed upon in advance.
• Address edit requests from the design and/or project teams.

Requirements

Essential

• Proven experience in layout design, including 20+ page documents.
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign, including master pages, typographic styles, and interactive features.
• Efficiency and workflow optimization skills in InDesign.
• Basic to intermediate proficiency in Adobe Illustrator.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word.
• Clear and timely communication skills.
• A keen eye for detail, especially under tight deadlines.

Desirable

• Proficiency with GREP Styles, Data Merge, Scripting, and other automation techniques in Adobe InDesign.
• Experience developing complex custom InDesign templates.

This is a freelance position compensated hourly on a project-to-project basis. Workloads will typically be heavier during the busy season from September to November and lighter during other months of the year.
