The engineer will be responsible for managing recording sessions from setup through rough mix, selecting the appropriate microphones and vocal chains, operating analog processing equipment, and delivering professional post-session mixes. The role also involves maintaining a positive and professional experience for artists and collaborating with clients to determine mixing services and associated costs. Our studio provides a fully stocked recording environment and reference-grade mixing space, allowing engineers to focus on performance capture, sound quality, and artist experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide rough mixes during sessions to guide artist performance and direction
  • Complete post-session mixing to professional release standards
  • Communicate with artists regarding mixing services and pricing
  • Maintain session documentation and ensure organized project files
  • Assist in maintaining the studio environment and ensuring equipment readiness

  • Analog signal flow and gain staging
  • Mixing fundamentals
  • Experience working in a professional recording studio environment
  • Ability to work with artists professionally and maintain a strong client experience
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail during sessions and post-production
  • Ability to work independently and manage sessions efficiently
  • Must Live in or around Lancaster, PA

Preferred Experience

  • Experience recording rap, hip-hop, or vocal-focused music
  • Familiarity with professional analog outboard processing and hybrid workflows
  • Strong mixing skills with modern vocal production techniques

Compensation & Benefits

  • Flexible scheduling
  • Combination of hourly session pay and mix-based commission
  • Access to a fully equipped professional studio and reference-grade mixing environment with mentorship on studio and personal projects
  • Opportunity to build relationships with artists and expand mixing portfolio.

Portfolio & Evaluation Process

Applicants must submit a portfolio of three songs that they have exclusively recorded and mixed for real-world artists. Submissions should demonstrate the applicant’s ability to capture strong vocal performances, build effective vocal chains, and produce professional-quality mixes. Selected applicants who advance to the second round of the hiring process will be provided with multitrack stems from an actual session recorded at Spencer Studios. Candidates will be asked to complete a mix demonstration to evaluate their technical approach, vocal balance, and overall mix quality within our studio workflow.

Availability Requirements

This position requires availability during the hours when most artists book sessions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, weekend evenings, and weekday evenings on a consistent basis.
